Stephanie's Heroes: Emily Tinsley

October 17, 2011

Emily Tinsley works for Physicians for Peace. She travels all around the world teaching nurses and doctors about burn care, maternal child health and emergency medicine in under served areas.

Her most recent trip was to Ecuador. She visited many different patients including some of the tiniest burn victims.

“We went down to see what there was and wasn't, how we could approach the situation and see what the greatest needs were,” she said.

It was a necessary mission, but one Tinsley says was full of long hours before and during her stay. “It's something that takes a lot of time and a lot of dedication and consistency. I think it's something that you really have to love what you do and stay with it."

Since becoming a nurse, the world traveler's goal has always been to help as many people as possible regardless of where they live. Physicians for Peace recognized Tinsley's dedication on Saturday, presenting her with the 2011 Medical Diplomat award for her service.

Although, just back from one trip, Tinsley is already preparing for the next.
