Stephanie's Heroes: Father-Son Delivery Duo

July 11, 2011

Not everyone has access to a hot meal everyday, so Kenny ball and his son Christoper Mojica volunteer for Charlottesville's Meals on Wheels program at least once a week.

“Some of these people have no other way of contact or no other way of preparing food, and this is the only way they would have a meal,” said Ball.

“We always make the time. If somebody can't do it, we'll do it because those people wont get their meals. We take the time out to just do it,” Mojica added.

They go door to door, not only to drop off food, but to offer elderly and shut-in folks some friendly conversation. For the father-son duo, they enjoy seeing new and familiar faces the most.

“It makes me feel great that you get to build these relationships with these people. They look forward to seeing you as much as you look forward to seeing them,” Ball explained.

Over the years Ball and Mojica have gone the extra mile. Even picking up extra routes to make sure everyone has something to eat. For that they're being called heroes.

“A lot of the time people are very appreciative and it makes you feel good,” said Mojica.

That's why they'll keep coming back. They say as long as they're making a difference and touching someone's life, it's all worth it in the end.

Meals on Wheels provides about 240 meals a day to people in the community. They're always looking for drivers, if you'd like to volunteer just call meals on wheels at 434-293-4364.
