Several times a month you can find Ada Jones in the kitchen at the Senior Center in Charlottesville ready to whip up a tasty and nutritious meal for the seniors. “I like to see them eat healthy," she said. "By serving and fixing the right foods, it gets that right food over to them."
For three months Jones has been behind the scenes preparing all sorts of dishes. “I like to serve chicken and there's a whole array of things that are good for you,” she said.
It's not just Jones' cooking that gets her noticed around the Senior Center. Her positive attitude and personality stand out too.
“Everyday when she comes in the building she brings in a spirit of joyfulness. She looks for ways to lift others up. Its inspiring,” said Ladelle Holland, a volunteer coordinator at Senior Center.
Whether she's in the kitchen or helping out in other parts of the building, people at the Senior Center call Jones a hero.
“I don't feel myself a hero. I am here to serve and help everyone and anyone that I come in contact with that needs help or something. I feel that's my service that I need to be doing,” she explained.
Jones says she'll continue staying busy in the kitchen keeping food on the table and making sure seniors have a healthy option at mealtime.
