A local law firm is helping to spread the message of distracted driving.
The Michie-Hamlett Law Firm got involved with the Distracted Driving Awareness Campaign more than a year ago.
Lawyers go around to local high schools showing a video that tells the story of a teenager using her GPS, running off the road, and killing a man whose car broke down.
They speak to students about how just a few seconds on your phone, or changing the radio, can impact a number of lives.
"This is a big issue," said Greg Webb, a trial attorney and managing partner at Michie-Hamlett. "And I think it'll become larger, and hopefully it will not take more and more tragedies before people give it the proper attention."
There are approximately 4,500 deaths a year caused by distracted driving.
Webb says he believes state legislatures will begin taking more action to make texting while driving illegal.
