UVa Today: Media, Democracy and Diversity Conference

March 25, 2010

The Media, Democracy and Diversity Conference is coming to the University of Virginia on April 2.

It's all about people getting together to discuss social issues and how those issues are being portrayed in the media. This interdisciplinary, pan-university conference will examine the impact of media on issues of identity, inclusion and citizenship.

Officials said the goals for this conference are to provoke thoughtfulness about beliefs and behaviors, contemplation on how those are reinforced or undermined in media, and consideration of the resulting impact on our unique roles in this democracy.

Dr. Marcus Martin, the interim vice president for diversity and equity at UVa., discusses the event with CBS19's Tiffani Sargent.
