UVa Today: Bay Game

April 8, 2010

Students and faculty at the University of Virginia are using a game to find ways to conserve the state's waterways.

The UVa. Bay Game is a pioneering approach to environmental conservation. The game is years in the making and was launched Thursday.

Each group represents the watersheds that make up the Chesapeake Bay. The grandson of legendary environmentalist Jacques Cousteau was in attendance for the launch.

"The players here are representing the seven different watersheds and the different stakeholders that, together, make the decisions on what happens to the Chesapeake Bay," Cousteau said.

Cousteau grew up believing in the importance of conservation and said he is thrilled with the progress UVa.'s simulation will make.
