On this edition of UVa Today Bob Beard talks with Professor John Hawley.
Professor Hawley is a co-winner of Asia's Equivalent to the Nobel Prize, the Shaw Prize in Astonomy, which carries with it a half million dollar award.
The UVa astronomer won the award for his work in studying the process black holes draw matter in, and the energy created by them.
Hawley and his team studied the process for years in order to determine how this energy is released and the reason behind it.
Hawley will travel to Hong Kong in September to accept the award.
