University of Virginia Professor Robert Grainger talks with CBS19 about Aniridia, a rare condition.
Aniridia is a congenital eye disease that causes serious vision problems, leaving some patients functionally blind.
UVa researchers have discovered that those with the disease are genetically obese, finding the same lesions affect gut tissue as well as the eye. Grainger believes that this discovery will help lead to a better understanding of the genetics of obesity.
Clinicians, researchers and patients of Aniridia will be meeting this weekend to discuss the disease and new treatments.
