UVA Today: Young Women Leaders Program

December 2, 2011

For this week's UVA Today segment, Dr. Edith "Winx" Lawrence visited the Newsplex to talk and the University of Virginia's Young Women Leaders Program.

Dr. Lawrence is the Director of the YWLP, which is co-sponsored with the Curry School of Education. The Young Women Leaders Program is a year-long mentoring program that focuses on promoting middle school girls' leadership abilities.

Local 7th grade girls who would like to participate are paired with UVa undergraduate women to work on exploring how women and girls can best reach their leadership potential.

The YWLP will be celebrating the end of the semester and their global connection with a sister program in Cameroon with an event Saturday at the Newcomb Hall Ballroom from 3-4 pm.
