If you've been coughing, it may be time to see your doctor. In this week's What's Going Around, we're checking in with three doctors in central Virginia and we're talking about upper respiratory infections, bronchitis and allergies.
Starting out in Afton, Dr. Steve Schmitz of Afton Family Medicine is treating several patients for allergies. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose and itchy watery eyes. Allergies can be treated with antihistamines.
In Palmyra, Dr. Gabriel Spring of Palmyra Medical Associates says viral bronchitis is going around. Symptoms include cough, tightness in chest, wheezing and rarely a fever. Treatment includes cough medicine, an inhaler as needed and bad cases may require oral steroids.
Upper respiratory infections are going around in Greene County. Doctor Brooke Bostic of Greene Family Medicine says symptoms include sore throat, congestion in chest, sinus congestion, hoarseness and cough and possibly a fever. Bostic says you don't need an anti-biotic, but recommends Tylenol, decongestants and zinc.
