If you're having trouble sleeping or notice a change in your blood pressure, you could be suffering from anxiety. In this week's What's Going Around we're focusing on anxiety disorders.
Dr. Gabriel Spring of Palmyra Medical Associates is providing our medical information.
Symptoms of anxiety include racing heartbeat, fear of the unknown, trouble falling asleep, high blood pressure, restlessness, and not feeling like yourself. Depending on the type of anxiety disorder, it can last a few months to a life time.
Dr. Spring says the best way to treat anxiety is with counseling, psychotherapy, breathing and mindfulness techniques like meditation and yoga.
Dr. Spring says the best way to prevent anxiety is by finding healthy ways to relax.
It's also important to point out that other medical problems may be disguised as anxiety. Those may include thyroid problems or heart disease.
Dr. Spring is reminding folks to get a shingles vaccine if they are over the age of 50.
