Travis Warren is a three-sport athlete and academic all-star at Madison County High School. The senior competes on the football, basketball, and baseball teams but not before setting an example in the classroom.

"I just try to work my hardest everyday and try to be a good leader and hope that they'll follow," Warren said. "But it all starts in the classroom, you can't get out here if you can't perform in the classroom."

Head Coach Stuart Dean agreed, calling Warren the definition of a student-athlete and role model.

"His GPA and SAT scores speak for themselves. He takes care of what he has to in the classroom and is outstanding in any sport he plays; it's what you want for all of your kids," said Dean.

As an athlete, baseball was Travis' passion and one he planned to make a future of. He was named to the All-District First Team as a freshman, sophomore, and junior.

In 2010, Travis joined the Mountaineer football team, having played just once before. His contributions were undeniable, as the junior scored nine touchdowns and amassed 842 yards. He also returned two kickoffs for scores. Following the season, Warren was named first team All-Region and All-District, plus second team All-State. In a matter of months, Warren's plans for a college baseball career quickly shifted to football.

"Going into my sophomore year I was like alright baseball's gonna be my focus for the next three years, and then just a season of football changed everything. I started to get some letters and...it's all just crazy to me, really."

In 2011, Travis continues to lead the team as the Mountaineers' top receiver. On Friday, Warren returns to the game field after suffering a broken hand on September 30. Heading into Week 8, he's averaging 73 yards per game with 4 touchdowns.

It's such an asset to have him on the field, not only for his athletic ability but his intelligence on the field and his role as a leader.

Travis says he hopes to play football in college and major in physical education or sports management.
