Charlottesville started to show signs of improvement in last week's win over rival Albemarle. Friday night they tried to continue their winning ways in their Jefferson District opener against Goochland.
Goochland, the district's newest member, entered the game allowing a paltry 13 points per game. However, Charlottesville would take an early 7-0 lead on a 65-yard touchdown pass from freshman QB Benj Wilhelm to Adrian Thurston.
Charlottesville would strike again late in the second quarter. After a nice play by Maurice Jackson put the Black Knights in Bulldogs territory, Wilhelm capped off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown to Thurston as the halftime buzzer sounded, 14-0 Black Knights.
And Charlottesville would not look back, as they rode the Wilhelm-to-Thurston connection to a 23-6 victory over Goochland. Charlottesville (2-2) will play host to winless William Monroe next week, while Goochland (3-1) travels to Orange County to face the Hornets.
