This week, the band "180" will headline Fridays After Five. This local cover band plays popular, family friendly songs from the 1950's through today from a wide range of artists and genres.
For the past five months, bands have filled the Charlottesville Pavilion with great music from a wide variety of genres for Fridays After Five. And while most groups claim to be a blend of several sounds, this week's headlining band will bring you a little bit of everything.
Bass Guitar player, Jim Smith, says, "It's a very diverse set of music. I think it appeals to a wide audience. We play songs going back to the 50's and all the way up to the present day."
Songs from the Beatles, the B-52's, Van Morrison, the Monkees, Lynard Skynard, Jimmy Buffett and even Weezer will be a part of the repetoire. Keyboard player, Tara Scott, says, "It's good for a diverse group of people; anyone can come and have a great time because everyone is going to hear something that they know and love."
For the members of 180 playing music is a hobby, and it's something they love to do. Band manager and Cello player, Frank Squillace, says, "It's very enjoyable and people see that on our faces. We get comments all the time, like 'you guys look like your having a lot of fun doing this,' which then rubs off onto the audience."
It's all about creating a fun, family friendly show that can be enjoyed by all ages. Squillace adds, "If you just have not been able to find a good wholesome family band in town that plays all the songs that you can sing and dance to, we're your band and we would love to see you."
180 will get things started at about 5:30 pm Friday (9/4) followed by the UVa "Paint the Town Orange" Pep Rally.
