If high power bills, stink bugs, or mold are causing you problems, you could win a home makeover through the PowerSaver Home Energy Makeover Contest.
Sponsored by the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) and UVa Credit Union, the contest will help local homeowners save money and energy through home improvements. LEAP Certified contractors will make homes more energy efficient through renovation projects like air sealing, duct sealing, adding insulation, and upgrading heating and cooling equipment.
There are 20 chances to win and one grand prize winner will get a $10,000 home makeover.
Annie Suttle, the outreach director at LEAP, says the goal of the contest is to help area homeowners save money and energy.
"The homes that win will be selected because they do need work. They might have moisture issues or really high energy bills. We have heard from the homeowners that there are also comfort issues. We will be looking for those homes that show the most potential for improvements through these home energy makeovers," Suttle says.
There are weekly random drawings and cash prizes that range from $2,500 to $10,000. The homes selected for grand prizes will be based on need and potential.
The contest is open to homeowners in the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson, and the City of Charlottesville. The deadline to register is August 19, 2011.
You can enter online at PowerSaverMakeOver.com, by calling LEAP at 434-227-4666 or by visiting LEAP's offices or one of the UVa Community Credit Union's branches to pick up an enrollment form.
