Freshmen students at Western Albemarle High School spent Wednesday afternoon freshening up the school and the Crozet community.

While sophomores and juniors took the PSAT, freshmen volunteered in an effort to help the community lead a greener lifestyle.

"I want to be proud of the school I'm at right now. I don't want it to look like a piece of trash. People will be happy when they visit here," said Patrick Hogan.

Students created posters for recycling and spruced up the building by weeding and mulching.

"We were mulching and weeding all the trees, and we were doing community service to help out the school to make it look better. We want to have a better community and be proud of what we have," said Jacob Sandridge.

They also extended the work beyond WAHS, including Beaver Creek, Claudius Crozet Park and the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC).
