It's that time of year again, time to dust off the lawn mower and fire it up. But this year when you're taking care of your yard make sure to take care of the environment too. For years Americans have gone with bigger and more powerful lawn tractors, but now things are changing. People are going greener and in some cases downsizing.
"John Deere is committed to introducing products that have the best quality as well as the least impact on our environment." says Ann Lawrence Grasty, President and General Manager of Virginia Tractor. It's all about finding the right lawn tractor for you and your lawn. Being eco friendly is great but it's not worth it if it doesn't get the job done. Grasty says, "First of all know your property, how large it is, what's the topography of it. Second of all. know what kind of base piece of equipment you want then you can add which accessories are going to be on top of it."
If a small push mower or electric mower wont cut it for you, try to find a mower that can multi-task. "Instead of just having their lawn mowed, they also want to be able to have something that can push snow in the winter time, maybe drag a tree out of their lawn." And finally be sure your mower is running properly. Just like a car, your lawn tractor need regular tune-ups. Grasty say, "If you don't have a piece of equipment that has been maintained, then your talking about something that is going to be 30% less fuel efficient." And keep those blades sharpened, dull blades will mean more time mowing and more fuel burning.
The professionals at Virginia Tractor also say that a well maintained lawn will cut down on mowing time, saving fuel and saving you money.
