The Sierra Club is making a push for new, green jobs.
Members stopped by City Space in downtown Charlottesville to urge Congress to take action. They want people to call lawmakers and tell them to pass a clean energy bill into law.
They said it could bring 45,000 new jobs to Virginia and billions of dollars in investment opportunities.
"It's pretty simple. We need clean energy jobs. We need them now," said Brian Henriksen of the Sierra Club. "We need energy independence, and the only way that's going to happen is if the Senate follows the House's lead and passes clean energy legislation this spring."
The Sierra Club took its message to the Free Speech Monument in front of Charlottesville City Hall, promoting its checklist for the 5th Congressional District.
