Albemarle County Gets Gold in Green Challenge

Albemarle County once again took home the gold when it comes to going green.

For the second year in a row the county has been awarded the gold level certification in the "Go Green Virginia Challenge".

Throughout the competition local governments earned "green points" by adopting environmentally friendly policies raging from energy efficiency and green buildings to land-use and innovation.

"I think the award recognizes Albemarle County as a local government is really doing it's part in environmental stewardship," said County Spokeswoman Lee Catlin. "Things like our environmental management policy and some of the the things we have done to green our fleet and some of the other things we've done."

Albemarle County received a total of 170 green points out of a possible 200.
