A pair of local pee wee cheerleading teams will take part in a national competition in Disneyworld next week.
The Pee Wee Jets of Greene County and the Junior Pee Wee Steelers of Albemarle County advanced through district and regional competition to make nationals.
The two teams are in their first year of existence and according to Jets' coach Sarah Amburgey, things have gone well.
'I have a great group of girls. I wasn't really sure what to expect but it's gone pretty smooth," Amburgey said.
The 8-to-11 year-old Jets will compete at the national level thanks in part to the aid of their Greene County neighbors, who helped the team raise the $5,000 needed to compete.
"We were thinking that we might not be able to go but now that we're sponsored we're excited," Jets' cheerleader Megan Glynn said.
Fellow cheerleader Morgan Taylor agreed.
"Greene County has been really helpful to us in donating money to our association to make us go to Disneyworld and we couldn't have done it without our county."
Amburgey said the response from the county has been "amazing."
"This is a great community. We've had so many restaurants and businesses come together and support us financially. I'm just really proud of the girls and our community."
