Loss of hand motion can prove to be a bane for the smallest of common day activity. Hand Therapist Pat Stevens explains how to build strength and increase range of motion for hand injuries.
Some of the hand injuries that Martha Jefferson's hand clinic works on are tendinitis, arthritis, tendon injuries and post hand surgery. They focus on predominantly the elbow to hand injuries. This clinic helps with wound care, keeping swelling down, scar control, custom splints and strength and conditioning.
Pat and other hand therapists at Martha Jefferson use the BTE Machine. This machine can simulate almost all common day activities involving hand and wrist range of motion. It actually strengthens specific tendons and muscles for that activity. For instance, one of the most common difficulties patients have after a hand or wrist injury is simply starting their car. This machine can enact this specified range of motion to help the injured to regain strength. The BTE machine is a great tool for the Martha Jefferson's Hand Clinic.
