Western Albemarle swept Potomac Falls 3-0 in a Region II Volleyball Semifinal matchup Thursday. With the win, the Warriors advanced to the Region II title game and earned a trip to the state playoffs.
The first game was a back-and-forth affair but key blocks down the stretch from Maggie Spindel and Riley Martin helped Western pull out the win, 25-23.
The second game was another tight contest, with Western taking a sizable lead late only to see the Panthers make a small comeback. The Warriors stayed tough, however, and won game two, 25-23.
Martin then started the third by serving up seven straight points for Western, who never looked and dominated the third, 25-14.
The Warriors now advance to the Region II Championship Saturday at Loudoun County, who beat Western 3-0 in an earlier matchup this season.
