State Panel Reviews Sexual Violence Prevention Recommendations

September 27, 2007

A panel appointed about Governor Kaine is reviewing 27 recommendations designed to help prevent sexual assault and improve treatment options for victims.

Once the recommendations are finalized the governor's Commission on Sexual Violence will present them to Kaine. Kaine told the commission Thursday that despite the tight budget this year, he will seriously consider and prioritize the recommendations.

Kaine said he'll divide them into policy changes that can be made immediately, and into recommendations that depend on legislative or budgetary changes, and those that are recommendations for others,
such as law enforcement agencies.

Kaine appointed the commission's members last year. They include sexual assault survivors, law enforcement officials, legislators, advocates and clergy.
