William Layton from Nelson County is hoping the fruits of his labor will win him the grand prize at the Virginia State Fair.

The competition begins Saturday morning.

Layton only started growing pumpkins three years ago.

“I seen them on TV one day and I said that's something I want to do and then once I did after I grew the first one that was 220 pounds I was hooked,” William Layton said.
