The right pair of shoes is essential when it comes to comfort, style, and getting from point 'A' to point 'B.'

This fall, finding more footwear will be a lot easier.

When in pursuit of that dream shoe, be it red, sparkly, or just plain comfortable, where do people in Charlottesville go? CBS19 caught up with Sara Perks who is shopping downtown.

"Anywhere I can find a good sale. I go to Target, I go to the mall. That kind of thing, just to see what's out there," says Perks.

The Belk Department Store in Fashion Square Mall says they are on a mission to become the number one ladies shoe destination in Charlottesville. It will cost $1.4 million to renovate and expand their shoe department to more than double its size.
Shoppers say they welcome the expansion.

"Any more shopping that can be done in town here I'd rather do than go out of town for shopping," says Perks.

You won't have to wait long to try on shoes for size. The shoe department expansion at Belk is expected to be completed in time for the holiday shopping season. Demand for more variety in shoe selection in Charlottesville is high. Raquel White and her husband Marvin recently started the business "Shoe Time" on the Downtown Mall.

"We see there's not really a sneaker store down here," says White.

White brings specialty sneakers from New York City to Charlottesville, and sells them to primarily teenagers, young adults, and tourists.

"We feel that we are providing a service, because we could have gone for scarves like everyone else, but we wanted to do something for the kids," says White.

The shoe expansion at Belk is slated to be completed October 1. However, White says she isn't worried about the Belk shoe expansion hurting her business because of her location downtown.

Hopefully they will stock size 5.5 for us with smaller feet. Everyone is now starting at size 6 and it is almost impossible to find shoes in C'ville!

Finally!! A new shoe store in Charlottesville. Unless you wear sneakers (which some of us don't), there's hardly a decent place here to buy nice shoes.
