Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Director, Pat Mullaney recently announced his retirement.

He has served as director for over thirty years and is responsible for creating many of the parks, amenities, athletic fields, lake benches, and water access points in Albemarle County.

Mullaney helped to expand the parks system from 1200 acres in 1981 to its current size, over 3,300 acres.

The retiring director also worked to establish a partnership between schools and the local government, and increased the number of athletic fields and gymnasiums available to the public.

Mullaney said it was just the right time to retire, "A couple of things came together at the right time and you have that feeling that your job is done here and it's time to do something else."

Pat Mullaney's retirement announcement follows the retirement announcements of several other Albemarle County officials, including county executive Bob Tucker.

Both the Chief of Police and School Board Member, Brian Wheeler, recently announced their retirements as well.

Mr. Tucker's name was in the story that we ran on the TV newscasts but didn't make it into the web version due to an oversight on our end. Thanks for bringing it to our attention...Jim the Newsplex News Director

Am I overlooking it, or did this reporter fail to mention that Bob Tucker, the county executive, also announced his retirement last week?
