Tuesday night, Charlottesville City Council approved an ordinance that will allow residents to keep goats as pets.
City residents can keep up to three goats that weigh less than 100 pounds each. The goats would also need to be de-horned and neutered.
A group called the Charlottesville Goat Justice League first brought the proposal before the council and has fought for the ordinance for more than a month. Organizers say goats are beneficial because they produce milk for cheese and help keep grass trimmed.
Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris said that because there was little opposition from the community, it was easy to make a unanimous decision.
"It's going to be fairly low impact. It's part of this whole effort I think you're seeing more and more in this country, people wanting to get closer to nature and closer to their food and it's one more step in that process," said Norris.

City council talks about goats.. Is there an issue here that I missed? Did council try to discuss the homeless situation? Goats/Homeless someones priorities are alittle bit confused.
I understand that goat meat is a staple in a lot of cultures. I applaud the city officials for stretching out their arms to embrace diversity. It will help bring a bit of the old country back for many recent migrants to this country. I am already researching recipes online, for when I shop local. The Caribbean recipes look especially tasty.
Super! If you get them, LOVE them. They're so much fun, and VERY intelligent little creatures.
