Police Escort of Oversized Load to Close Lanes on I-64
Virginia State Police will be escorting an oversized load through Virginia along multiple interstates beginning Thursday night at 8pm.

Virginia State Police will be escorting an oversized load along multiple interstates beginning Thursday night at 8pm.

Police will be escorting the oversized load along:

Interstate 81 south, Interstate 64 east, Route 522 south, Route 60 east, Route 288 south, Interstate 95 south, Route 10 east, Interstate 295 south.

There are two legs of travel on two separate dates:

Leg #1:

Start: Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 8pm (approx. 6 hours)

- The load will leave the Clear Brook, Virginia area

- Travel I-81 south to I-64 east - Due to the width of the load, it will be necessary to stop the load at various locations to allow traffic to pass. This will be coordinated with the troopers and the driver.

- Once the load enters I-64 east: At Exit # 121 the load will be moved from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes.

o The westbound lanes of I-64 will be shut down for a short period of time prior to Exit #124 and the ramp from Rt. 250 to I-64 west

o When the load arrives at this location, the load will then travel east in the westbound lanes approximately 3.5 miles until it reaches Exit #124. The load will exit I-64 using the entrance ramp from Rt. 250 to I-64 west.

o The load will turn right onto Rt. 250 south and then re-enter I-64 east.

o Once the load has re-entered I-64 east

o The load will continue east until it reaches the abandoned rest area at the 145 mile marker.

o The load will rest there for the night.

Leg #2:

Start: Friday, September 10, 2010 at 8pm (approx. 6 hours) - troopers will meet at the abandoned rest area at the 145 mile marker

- The load will be escorted the rest of the way along

o I-64 east to

o Rt. 522 south to

o Rt. 60 east to

o Rt. 288 south to

o I-95 south to

o Rt. 10 east to

o I-295 south to

o I-95 south

The Super Load will then stop at the Carson Scales on Interstate 95 around 2am, Saturday, September 11. They will then leave and proceed to the North Carolina Line beginning at 6:30am.
