Melanie Hood was diagnosed with Myleodysplastic Sydrome (pre-Leukemia) in February.

Hood, who is a 41-year-old mother and counselor at Crozet Elementary School, has responded quite well to monthly treatments, however her survival and continued state of wellness depends upon her receiving a bone marrow transplant.

So, friends organized a drive to join the Be The Match Marrow Registry Thursday from 5pm to 7pm at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Albemarle County. Organizers say Melanie is looking for a 100% compatible match for her bone marrow transplant, and her best chance of finding one is through the Be The Match Marrow Registry.

A simple cheek swab is all that is needed to determine if you could be the perfect match for Melanie or one of the thousands of other patients in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Anyone unable to attend the bone marrow drive Thursday can still join the registry by calling 866-301-4650 x7385 and a swab kit will be sent directly to you.
