Residents Enjoy First Of Four Waste Free Days

October 7, 2007

Saturday was the first of four bulky waste amnesty days this fall. Albemarle, Charlottesville, and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority are teaming up to offer them.

There's no charge to county or city residents each day of the program.

Hazardous household wastes were collected at the Ivy Materials Utilization Center throughout the day Saturday.

"What Rivanna is trying to do is make sure these materials are environmentally disposed of in a friendly manner," said Recycling Operations Manager Bruce Edmonds.

Organizers hope to avoid any harmful waste dumping.

Next Saturday, they'll collect furniture and mattresses, while appliances and tires will be collected later this month. The upcoming three bulky waste amnesty days are on October 13th, 20th, and 27th.
