A Sweet Success In Cville
Living in a community that loves to eat means the perfect charity event should involve a taste test. Food Junkies both young and old gathered at The Haven to auction off some very delicious pies and bid on the most scrumptious ones.

With a dash of locals, a spritz of flavor and a hint of competition, The Cville Pie Fest is an all around hit.
The event is meant to bring food junkies together to raise money for local homeless shelters. Holly Martin, just 14 years old, entered a flavorful French Apple Pie that was filled with cinnamon, nutmeg and caramelize raisins.
"My mom bakes all the time. This year she just asked me if I wanted to bake a pie for the contest, and I told her I would," said Martin.
A judge's job is to sift out the rotten bakers from the more seasoned ones. Rowena Moore, a judge and the publisher of In The Kitchen Magazine says this competition boils down to personal taste.
"Some people bake to win, some people bake to involve their family in the event." and she says, "Some people just bake because they love pie."
As for Martin, who has been cooking for a little over a year, she says her main priority for entering the Pie Fest will continue to be focused on charity.
"It's about raising the money," says Martin, "and it's about getting to see the kinds of apple pies people make. Raising the money is more important. That's why my mom and I did it."
Martin's version of French Apple Pie did receive great reviews, but it was a caramel green tomato pie that won over the judges.
