UVa Observes Energy Day

October 12, 2007

Recycling fluorescent lamps is just one of the ways the University of Virginia plans to observe Energy Day 2007.

Two UVa groups, Green Grounds and Student Environmental Action, are handing out compact fluorescent light bulbs in exchange for incandescent light bulbs.

The event also features local and regional businesses presenting a variety of alternate fuel and energy conservation techniques and daily measures that can be taken to conserve energy.

"You don't have to change everything you do to conserve energy. If you make the right buying decisions, if you take the right actions, you can be environmentally responsible," said Paul Crumpler, UVa Energy Program manager.

In light of the drought, the Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority, Albemarle County Service Authority and the city of Charlottesville are handing out water-saving packets.
