Cyclists Tackle Tough Terrain In Charlottesville

October 14, 2007

Sunday amateur and pro bikers battled terrain on and off the road in the second annual Urban Cross Race in Charlottesville.

Blue Wheel Bicycles sponsored the cyclo-cross race. Riders took several laps on an obstacle course of pavement, grass, dirt, stairs, and sand. At some points, riders had to dismount to cross ditches or barriers and hop back on the bike to continue the race.

About 100 bikers rode the grounds of the IX Center in Charlottesville.

"Everyday when I come to work I look at this place and I say 'this would be a great place for a cross race' and so we did it basically to have fun," said organizer Roger Friend.

The final race for the Cyclo-Cross series will be held December 9th at Darden Towe Park.
