October 18, 2007

The Virginia Supreme Court's newest justice swore in on Thursday. Bernard Goodwyn took the oath of office during a ceremony in Richmond.

For the last 10 years Goodwyn has been a circuit court judge in Chesapeake. Several speakers praised Goodwyn at the ceremony.
Governor Tim Kaine, who appointed Goodwyn, spoke of the Harvard-educated justice's character, background and fairness. Others praised his integrity, intelligence, professionalism and compassion.

The 46-year-old Goodwyn said he was humbled by the responsibility bestowed upon him and vowed to do his best on behalf of Virginia citizens. The General Assembly still must confirm Goodwyn's appointment. He was broad support from both political parties.
