More than 200 Charlottesville Police officers and their families gathered at the Omni Hotel in the city Friday night for the annual Police Department Award Ceremony and Banquet.

The event honored officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, as well as officers who are celebrating milestones with the department.

"A lot of what a police officer does in this community everyday flies under the radar," said Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo. "It doesn't make it on the six o'clock news or above the fold in the local newspaper, and we want to take an opportunity to let these officers know and their families how much we appreciate the dedication and the commitment that they demonstrate everyday to this community."

Officers who had to work the night shift Friday and couldn't attend the ceremony had dinner delivered right from the Omni.
