Woman Dead In Richmond Stabbing

Around 8:52 a.m. Saturday, Richmond Police responded to the call of a person stabbed at the 2220 block of West Broad Street.

Some citizens tried to help the female victim and other witnesses followed the suspect.

Richmond Police were able to apprehend the suspect within minutes of the incident because of the citizen’s help.

The female was pronounced dead at the scene and is approximately 70 years old. The initial investigation indicates the victim is from the area and was walking her dog.

Robbery does not appear to be the motive at this point.

The suspect is Johnny Hughes, 52, and he is homeless. Upon the arrest of this suspect he was acting in a disturbed manner.

The victim’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
