Meals on Wheels Celebrates 30th Birthday

October 28, 2007

The Charlottesville chapter of Meals on Wheels celebrated it's 30th birthday on Monday.

They held a party at the Omni Hotel celebrated with cupcakes for the public and a cake contest.

Money was raised through bidding on cakes that were on display.

Organizers described the party as a thank you party to the community for support for the past 30 years.

Meals on wheels prides it's self as the only hot food service, bringing meals to about 200 local residents each day; a way for neighbors to help neighbors one meal at a time.

"We're a part of a larger safety net for people in our community who need some help and we want to help them and be good neighbors," said Mandy Hoy, the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels.

CBS 19's Beth Duffy and UVA women's basketball coach Debbie Ryan were two of the guest judges of the cake contest.
