NYC Mayor Endorses Virginia State Senator

November 1, 2007

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is lending his notable name to endorse Republican Virginia State Senator Jeannemarie Devolites Davis.

Devolites Davis is in a close re-election race in northern Virginia against Democrat Chapman Petersen. Bloomberg has not even met Devolites Davis, but has known her husband, Congressman Tom Davis, for years.

The mayor rarely gets involved in local campaigns outside of New York, and has never done so in a legislative race. Democrats targeted her seat in a pivotal election year. They can win a majority in the 40-member Senate for the first time in 12 years with a net gain of four GOP seats in Tuesday's election.
