Contractor Fined For Illegal Campaign Contributions

November 1, 2007

A defense contractor has been fined for making illegal campaign contributions to House members Virgil Goode of Virginia and Katherine Harris of Florida.

Officials from the Federal Election Commission fined MZM and its founder , Mitch Wade, $1million. It is the second-largest campaign finance penalty in the agency's history.

Wade and MZM acknowledged violating campaign finance laws by
funneling $78,000 in corporate contributions to Goode and Harris. The commission found no wrongdoing by Goode or Harris.

Wade pleaded guilty in 2006 to paying former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham more than one million dollars in bribes.
