A gruesome discovery was made in Madison County Saturday. A group of hunters found human skeletal remains in the woods.

Officials say the body may have been there up to one year and was completely decomposed.

The hunters called the Madison County Sheriff's Office when they stumbled upon the bones around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators spent the day recovering all the bones. The remains will be shipped to a medical examiner's office in Fairfax to identify the body and possibly determine the cause of death.

Upon receiving the medical examiner's report, the sheriff's department will begin its investigation.
