The 73rd annual running of the Montpelier Hunt Races Saturday were a celebration of steeplechase racing and traditional southern hospitality.

The event, as always, took place at the home of President James Madison in Orange County.

Some say the races are just as important to Orange County residents as some of the holidays right around the corner.

"I love this quote from an Orange native that said 'I might miss Christmas, but I would never miss the races,'" said Executive Director Martha Strother. "To Orange County and the people in this area, it is homecoming, and they hold it very near and dear to their hearts, and they wouldn't miss it for the world."

About 14,000 people usually attend the all-day event.
