Louisa County Voters Face Food Tax Referendum

November 6, 2007

Louisa County voters will vote on a referendum on the ballot to decide whether or not the Board of Supervisors will have the authority to set a tax on food and beverages throughout the county.

The town of Louisa and the town of Mineral currently have the tax but restaurants in the county do not. Legally a possible rate cannot be decided by the Board of Supervisors until after the referendum is voted in.

Currently there is no meal tax but if the referendum passes it would provide more revenue for the county.
