On Thursday, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced its list for 2008 Top Safety Picks.
Thirty-four 2008 models in total earned the top rating.
For a vehicle to earn the top safety pick rating, it had to perform well in not only front crashes, but also rear crashes, and in side impact crashes.
"Those vehicles earning our top rating, good, on a scale of good, acceptable, marginal, poor, on all three tests, plus or available with Electronic Stability Control earned the designation of top safety pick," said David Zuby, IIHS Senior Vice President of Vehicle Research.
