EPA Policing Benefitting Virginia

November 16, 2007

Virginia is benefiting from the policing of environmental laws throughout the state.

The Environmental Protection Agency says enforcement of the laws this year will produce more than $141 million in pollution controls and environmental projects.

The EPA's calculation of environmental benefits include reductions in more than 58 million pounds of chemicals released into the environment. Benefits also include removing contamination in waterways and cleaning up contaminated soil.

The agency inspected and took action for violations in casing ranging from reporting issues to mismanagement of hazardous waste and illegal discharges.
