Around 2 p.m. Thursday, a plane left Washington, DC en route to Knoxville, Tennessee. An hour later, authorities at the Charlottesville–Albemarle airport receive a call from Washington about a bomb threat.
The threat from that plane, U.S. Airways flight 2425 now diverted to Charlottesville, was reportedly given to a U.S. Airways official.
U.S. Airways says an unruly passenger at Ronald Reagan National Airport made "unsavory comments" that caused concern after the flight had taken off, while the TSA says the passenger made a bomb threat.
That passenger, who officials are only identifying as a man, was taken into custody by the FBI in Washington.
Canine and officers from state and local police along the TSA and FBI searched the plane after making sure all passengers on board were taken off to be re–checked and re-screened.
The bomb sniffing dogs found a bag belonging to the person making the threat, but found no bomb–like devices, and passengers were allowed to re-board the flight cleared the plane to fly.
The passengers on board the flight bound for Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport did not report any injuries.
