If you're over 50, exercising could save your life.

"I was walking down the stairs in North Carolina carrying a suitcase, when I tripped and caught my balance," recalls Anne Hobson, a student of TaiJi.

Whether it's avoiding a fall or increasing health vitality, studies show that older adults who exercise regularly live longer. Still three–fourths of the older adult population do not exercise enough. Those who aren't, are missing out.

"I just feel so wonderful after the class," shares Kathleen Dee.

Jenny Hoang has been taking TaiJi, a slow and controlled martial art, at the Senior Center for years and you wouldn't want to mess with her.

"We move slow, but if you try to punch us, you see how we move," says Hoang.

TaiJi also makes David Bull's job as a postal worker much easier.

"We gotta get the boxes to the docks, there's a lot of pressure. Since taking this class, I can handle the pressure much better at work," he says.

Exercising regularly has many health benefits and fights diseases such as diabetes, stroke, some cancer and clinical depression. It can reverse the aging process, not only because of these physical benefits, but because of mental benefits too.

"They walk with a spring in their step. They feel stronger," says Prime Time Fitness Instructor Marcy Parmiter.

"They walk more confidently. They have better balance," agrees TaiJi instructor Brian McKenzie.

The best exercise prescription includes aerobic exercise for the heart, strength training for the muscles, and stretching for the mind and relaxation. For those just starting a routine for their New Year's Resolution, take it slow and let your body and adapt, and then...

"Keep exercising, put it at the top of the list!" encourages Parmiter.
