It was the news that Chyler Ebersold's family did not want to hear. The 23-year-old's body was found Monday morning, January 24, along Aderman and Stadium Roads, on UVA grounds.

"The body of Chyler was discovered shortly after 10 a.m. this morning just a short distance from his home, secreted in a drainage culvert," said Chief of Charlottesville Police, Tim Longo.

Police are not saying much about how Ebersold died or the condition of the body, but they don't believe foul play was involved.

"Although we are in the very early stages of the death investigation, all indications are that his death was self-inflicted," said Longo.

Ebersold, a diabetic, was reported missing on Friday, January 21st. Family and friends were concerned because he was insulin dependent and had apparently left his medication behind. Police started a preliminary investigation, which later turned into a full fledge search.

More than 100 volunteers and emergency service personnel from Charlottesville, Albemarle, the state and UVA took part in the search, looking for any signs of Ebersold on Sunday. Police say the investigation is still in its early phases. No word right now on when funeral or memorial services for Ebersold will take place.
