Case Against Police Officer Stricken

On Monday, January 31st, General District Court Judge Robert Downer said there was not sufficient evidence that Charlottesville Police Detective James Mooney harassed Larry Monroe when he requested a DNA sample on March 30 of last year.

Monroe's attorney Deborah Wyatt says her client does not fit the description of the serial rapist and should not have been approached simply because he is a black male.

Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo said, "Certainly this is a very difficult situation for everyone involved, the community, the police department, and Detective Mooney and his family. I hope that he has gotten past this. We have gotten past this. And I trust that justice has prevailed."

Monroe was suing Mooney for $15,000 in damages. Wyatt is considering an appeal of the ruling.
