Students Read for Tsunami Relief

Some local elementary students are doing their part to help tsunami victims abroad.

Students at Greenbriar Elementary are sponsoring a Read for Relief fundraiser to help children affected by the tsunami.

The children hope to raise $1, 200 by committing to read at least 1, 200 books by February 14.

The students say they're excited to be helping their peers, who live thousands of miles away.

"I'm excited because we get to help people who need to be helped, and it's really exciting because they need stuff that we already have," said 4th Grader Alyssia Perez.

"It feels pretty good because we are so much luckier than the children over there," said Eleanor Seaman. "Their homes, their families, their food and water is severely damaged or completely blown away."

If you're interested in becoming a sponsor, you can call (434) 245-2415.

All proceeds will go towards the Save the Children USA Asian Earthquake Tsunami fund.
