Jefferson School Remembered

Until 1967, the Jefferson School was where segregated students walked the halls. On Tuesday, February 1st, men and women of all races joined together to watch a documentary of the Jefferson School's historic events that made it what it is today.

"Built in 1926, the Jefferson School became the new home for students looking to improve their life," said Maurice Jones.

"When it was segregated the kids were very tight, they were very concerned. They respected the teachers, they respected the parents, they respected the neighborhoods, but during integration everyone was sort of afraid," said Richard Johnson.

"There were wrongs done, and here we are looking for ways to recognize what was done in the past and to look at it straight in the face and then also to reconcile," said Kendra Hamilton.

Even through segregation student still formed a strong bond.

"Although people lived on different sides of town, when we came to Jefferson School in class we were all one,"said Ann Carter.

Some of those close-knit students that once attended the Jefferson School said they all took the same thing with them when they left.

"Teachers and principals they instill so much in us," said Pete Carey.

The film will be shown again on February 10th and 22nd.
